Wrapping up the year ...

The calendar system offers an opportunity to set goals, timelines, markers … and as a year ends, it can mark the closing of one door and the opening of another as we approach the coming year.

I like to reflect on what has worked for me this year and fulfilled me.

I also like to look at what I could have done better.

And reflect on what brings joy into my life. One particular source is the joy from sharing the teachings of Yoga and more recently the teachings of Ayurveda that together have made such a tremendous positive and, in some cases, profound impact on students’ lives.

It’s been a year of many highlights as well as many challenges. But it’s these challenges that teach us more about ourselves if we can stop and reflect. It’s uncomfortable but there is no change if we stay comfortable.

India ... I kicked off the year with another trip to my beloved India with a smaller group. We spent time at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram (KYM) to reconnect with our roots of this tradition, Thiruvannamalai and Auroville during Pongal – a 4 day Harvest Festival celebrated in the state of Tamil Nadu. There were daily yoga practices and many opportunities to experience the life and culture of this amazing country. I love this opportunity to share my experiences from over a dozen visits to India with students – the transformations that happen are so rewarding.

Teacher Training .... In February I continued into the second year of the 500 hour Teacher Training with the 4 students who started the previous year. It’s a credit to the commitment and dedication of the students to take on this training when there are so many trainings available now that are short and quick. Yoga is an experience and the teachings are so rich, vast and deep, it takes more than a few weeks to assimilate the knowledge and take time to experience these ancient and sacred teachings.

Ayurveda and Harvest Your Health... Throughout the year I’ve been pursuing further studies in Ayurveda (the sister science of Yoga) and offered a series of Free Talks on the fundamentals of this ancient science of life and health.

A highlight for me was to be able to launch my new lifestyle program “Harvest Your Health” based on the teachings of Yoga and Ayurveda. I’m now working with 17 women who are evolving everyday as they learn and integrate daily self-care, healing and hygiene habits of Ayurveda to realign their bodies, minds and lifestyle and bring ease and vibrancy into their lives.

Yoga Therapy, group classes ... I’ve also continued throughout the year offering Yoga Therapy (private personalised yoga adapted to individuals) and teaching weekly Yoga classes– offering 8 group classes a week .

The year has been intense at times and also fulfilling. It’s easy to be drawn to the negative – but with just a little effort there is so much goodness, joy and happiness waiting to be experienced. Take a step out of where it is you feel comfortable – find your edge.

In the new year just around the corner, be brave. Be courageous. Take steps to do what it takes to find the best version of yourself.

And to close the year .... I’d sincerely like to thank every one of you who has been to any of my classes, talks, workshops or who I have been in contact with in some way for your support and your commitment to these precious and sacred teachings of Yoga and Ayurveda.

I’ll be spending the next week or two reflecting on what my path holds for 2020 and will share this with you soon.

I’ll be taking a short break from today, 24 December 2019 and will resume classes on Friday 3 January 2020 with the early morning Wake Up To Yoga! Class at 6.45am (bookings required – click here to visit the website for bookings).

I’ll also be taking appointments that day for private classes and Yoga Therapy.

I look forward to sharing more offerings in January and throughout the year.

May the season bring you peace, joy and time for rest.

Namaste,
